Computers are a lot like automobiles in that they need to be serviced on a regular basis. There are many software programs available on the market that can make this an easy process. If you don’t have a program to use then here are a couple of things you can do manually, to optimize your system. One of the main things you should do is, run Disk Cleanup This can be done by going to your start menu, choose accessories, then System Tools, then run Disk Cleanup, clean all drives that you have in your system. This will cleanup temporary files, and files you may no longer use. Cleaning up temporary internet files will also speed up your web surfing, your system will look at all your temporary files to see if you have been there before, instead of just going there first.
The System Tools folder has a lot of tools that can be useful for you, so remember where this location is on your computer.
Next go back into your System Tools folder and run Disk Defragmenter. You should defragment all drives in your system. This can speed up your system alot. If your drive gets fragmented, the hard drive is searching all over your drive looking for files, which means it takes a lot longer to perform it’s task. When you defragment, you are optimizing your files on your hard drive by placing files closer together so your drive can find them much quicker, which will mean an increase in speed of your hard drive per task. This is just a couple of basic things that you can do to help optimize your system. There are many PC Maintenance software programs on the market that you can purchase to do these this for you, along with many other optimization techniques, like cleaning your registry out of old entries on software that you no longer use.
