Laptop Reviews – HP Pavilion DV7-3180US 17.3 Inch Laptop

Like most other laptops the HP Pavilion DV7-3180US has gone for a solid black chassis that makes it suitable for both the office as well as the home. HP has added on a chrome trim on the sides for a bit more style which also adds a bit more to the solid feel of the chassis. The cover is high-gloss black with some HP imprint patterns on it that does make it look a bit better. As expected of a laptop with a 17.3 inch display, the keyboard is similarly large and comfortable to go with the equally track pad.

Offering a 17.3″ HD+ High-Definition LED HP BrightView wide-screen display the HP Pavilion DV7-3180US has plenty of viewing real estate to play with. This includes 1600×900 pixel resolutions for ultra-smooth 720p HD video. The higher resolution also means that you can play more games, especially the intense 3D first person shooters. It helps that the laptop is powered by an Intel Core i7 720QM processor as its Turbo Boost function gives you the edge when you need it. It also doesn’t hurt that the laptop has an Nvidia GeForce GT 230M graphics processor with 1GB worth of GDDR memory. With 6GB of DDR3 memory the system is very stable and can even handle mild 3D render work. Rest assured that the laptop could handle Blu-ray as it comes equipped with a Lightscribe capable Blu-ray drive that can also burn DVDs and CDs.

Since the HP Pavilion DV7-3180US is targeted as an entertainment laptop it also comes with integrated surround sound speakers along with a sub-woofer that sounds good for a laptop sound system. Battery life is about 1 hour and a half on single charge but thankfully the laptop recharges very quickly as well. As expected with the listed components, the HP Pavilion DV7-3180US excels in office work and can even run a DVD while you’re writing an email. It can handle light to medium gaming quite well, but is limited at high-end gaming due to the graphic processor. All in all, the HP Pavilion DV7-3180US is a great desktop replacement unit laptop that doesn’t look as bulky as its other 17-inch laptop compatriots. It handles everything quite well, even 3D rendering but could do with an external sound system or headphones as well as more powerful graphics processor, especially if you want to max out all the settings in your games. Multimedia it handles excellently though so if you’re looking for a stylish entertainment laptop, this is the one for you.
